Carnival Destiny Cruise, Part 2

Saturday of our cruise we were scheduled to have 10 hours in Cozumel Mexico. However, with the head winds fighting us, we arrived about an hour and 45 minutes late and were told we needed to be on the ship an hour earlier than planned due to the big "Carnival" going on in town. They were having some huge celebration with parades and parties and stuff. It was all down town and we never made it that far!

Holly and I had booked a snorkling excursion through the same group that planned our jet ski excursion. So we got off the ship and headed towards the cabs. We loaded up and headed to the La Catina Marina (which happened to be a lot closer than we expected). We went straight there thinking there would surely be some place to eat once we got there. But we were very wrong. So we ended up in the bait shop buying cheetos and cookies for our "lunch" before we snorkled. We had been greeted by a good looking young Mexican guy who barely spoke any english. He did tell us his cousin would be our guide. Luckily for us, the cousin turned out to be a girl about my age (I think) who grew up in Arkansas and shared time in Mexico between her mom (from Arkansas) and her dad (from Mexico City).  She was very nice and helpful. Turned out that only Holly and I had booked this excursion so it was basically a private tour.

So after fitting our snorkle gear, we did some snorkling. We both took lots of pictures with our waterproof cameras (those will come later when I get them developed). After snorkling a couple different spot, I started feeling queasy. Luckily, Holly was having the same thing and we were able to end our tour early since it was just the two of us.

We spotted this Gem at the marina where we were taking our tour from.

After drinking some salt free water, I felt much better. We made it back to the tourist trap that was at the dock near our ship and did some shopping and ate a meal at Three Amigos.

Sunday was our day at sea on our way back to Miami. We slept in and then headed to the deck to get some sun. Unfortunatly, people were very rude and were saving the deck chairs and we could not find a place to lay out. We found our friends from Nebraska and talked with them for a while before a guest services guy came and told us that if a chair was empty for 20 minutes or more, we were allowed to remove the stuff that was there and sit in the chair. So we started watching and found some chairs that were empty for a long time. We moved the stuff and sat there for a couple hours and the people never came back. Rude. Why leave your stuff if you are not coming back immediately? Rude.

Anyway, so then we lounged around for a while, ate some lunch, lounged some more. Then I had a group Spin class in the gym at 4. The class was hard but awesome.

Sunday morning we had received a notice about a cocktail reception at 5 pm. We had heard that they had rescheduled our Emerald Extras reception (after we drank free drinks from whatever reception we and some other people apparently crashed earlier in the cruise). So after my class, I showered and went to the reception for more free drinks and snacks. None of the people from the first reception were there, but the Nebraskans, the Iowans, and the North Dakotans (half of them) were there so we felt we were in the right place. Apparently only half of us got the email about the Friday reception and only half of us got the note on the ship about the Sunday reception, and just a handful of us got both. Crazy. But hey, free drinks is something you dont come by very often on the ship so we took full advantage!

Then we went to meet Paul and Judy for our last supper together. The wait staff serenaded us at the end of the meal. It was fun. Then we met up with the Nebraskans (Jana, Dennis, Laurie, and Jan) and the other North Dakotans (Scott and ??) and watched the comedy shows. Then we said our good byes.

Monday we arrived at the port at 7 AM. We were in line to debark by 7:30 and we were within the first 20 people off the ship. We shared a cab with a couple from Chicago to the airport and started our journey home. We arrived in Wichita at 6 PM and I was home by 7:30. I was glad to be home, and I think Holly felt the same way.

And here are the pics of our towel animals.
